Um, the kid was in extreme danger. I'm 5'10" at 165 pounds, a 450 pound male gorilla could tear me limb from limb, with ease. One could snap a four year old, like a twig. The videos and witnesses both tell the same story, the gorilla was growing more and more agitated, increasing the danger the child was in. They had to kill Harame, tranquilizers don't work like they do on TV. The take a while to work, and in the mean time, the animal becomes highly agitated.
